The vouchers I've got have an expiry date of 27/08/06..?
I had a strange incident at Tesco's yesterday (Cross Point). I bought some toiletries and a few other groceries and was ambling along past the tills (looking for a cashier who 'looked the part' if you catch my drift) then I notice further along, a sign for 'self scan' so I thought I'd give that a go, not tired these before so it would be a first. So, as I was walking along there was this assistant in a blue blouse, she walked over to me and asked if 'I was looking to pay'? I said 'yes' and she said follow me then. She walked straight to the self scan area and opened a new till. She then proceeded to unload my trolley and scan my products one by one (I was truly stuck for words). So then I offered my key fob clubcard thingy and she scanned that too. Then I said I have some money off vouchers that I want to scan and plucked up some courage to ask 'why, if this was self-scan, is she taking over and doing the scanning for me', she replied 'this is how we do it', also there was an assistant at the end of the till, watching on a screen, everything that was going through. I offered a 2.50 one, then 5 x 1.00 ones, then 4 x 50 points ones, one of the 1.00 ones beeped, so I tried another 2.50 one which all went through (vouchers courtesy of the ind MSE'ers who have sent me some). THEN she said 'sorry, you can't do that' she had a discussion with the other assistant and proceeded to take off the two 2.50 vouchers and said we only take 10% off the total bill with vouchers and you have too many.
I questioned this and they where both adamant and by this time I got a bit peeved as we where going round in circles, I'd asked why did it scan through then surely if this was wrong then it wouldn't have done so, and where on any displays does it say we only take 10% off the bill, she said it doesn't but you can pop over to customer services and they will verify what I have just told you.
I said forget it, not worth it and that I would go home and ring head office and see what they have to say. Needless to say, I haven't bothered ringing them (yet) as I've resigned to the fact that i would be on a losing streak with this one.
Has anybody else heard of this 'ruling'?
Also, it made me feel like a bit of a criminal, why did she target me along the isles (was it because I had shopping which was predominantly tolietries)? I felt like telling her to get lost! Was ever so slightly annoyed at this. :mad:0 -
CheekyLittleMonkey sounds like she was just been a cow. As far as i'm aware tesco tills will only take tesco own coupons if you have bought the exact product. So if the till accepted it u must have bought enough of the correct items. They will however take manufactures coupons with out having to buy the product although staff at my tesco wont let u do this although its different in other stores. I'm sure a memo must of gone round about the tolietries offer and coupons because i'm sure staff are looking out for people on self scan tills with the coupons and tolietries. I think the 10% thing might come from them only taking 10% off your shop in manufactures coupouns if you haven't bought the product.
I believe if you've bought all the products and have different coupons for all the different products you should be allowed to use all the coupons even if its more than 10% off your shop as how can they refuse a vaild coupon if you bought product.
They have to accept luncheons vouchers if you've bought food i've often over 100 pounds worth and not paid a penny cash. For thousands of people this Christmas, their must-have gift is far more vital than the latest gadget or toy – it’s blood. Please don’t let the festivities and cold weather prevent you from giving them the ultimate gift… give blood.0 -
hi..cheekylitlemonkey...... the 10% allowance on money off coupons is if you HAVE NOT bought the product.... but you did buy the products so they can not refuse to take them...i would complain in writting to tescos...and state that the beauty products that you were buying were for yuor hols or something... and say that you then had to go to asda to buy them...they hate losing business to their competitiors.....so see how you get on.....
but go back and just go to a normal sa...each time you go to tescos they saying diff. things..good luckWork to live= not live to work0 -
got a bit confused... its the current tesco offers on the beauty products that end on the 15th august...bogofs etc.....Work to live= not live to work0

Used self scan twice on Friday and had problems both times.
On first occasion the supervisor ( a midle aged woman ) said I must have gone over 30% ( store limit for manufacturers vouchers whether purchased or not ) but retracted that when I said they were all Tesco vouchers. She then proceeded to show me her console which showed all my vouchers on screen as accepted ok. Finally she thought one might not have been registered as going through the slot but alas that was not the problem either. She gave up looking for a reason and ok'ed it. £14 before bogoffs for £1.82 and 157 points.
On second occasion similar scenario but young lad ok'ed them instantly on console without attending till.
It seems they flag up a problem but leave supervisor clueless as to reason. Moral of the story is to pick your till according to the cashier or the self scan according to who is supervising it.Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning. Albert Einstein0 -
