Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

Download a copy of CCleaner from www.CCleaner.com (it's free).
Click on the Tools icon on the left hand side and locate "Start-Up Menu"

This will then list all the programs that start when you start the computer. Most people have dozens. There is a facility in CCleaner to either delete them from the Satrt Menu or Disable them.

In general, you need to leave your Antivirus program and anything that says it is in the Windows folder or for your sound and/or graphics card. Leave in atwtusb.exe - otherwise just disable the rest. If you then reboot and find something doesn't work, you can always re-enable the relevant file in the S/U Menu.

While you've got CCleaner running, on the opening page, clean up all the rubbish files that have been left on the computer from old programs, too.
