New ebay postage

Hi there,
I listed a bundle on the 28th- the bundle weighs over 2kg, so will cost me £7.04 standard parcels to post, so I listed with a £7.50 postage charge (using envelope which cost me 60p!). Obviously now we are not allowed to charge more than £4 for postage when listing something (ETA: in the clothing category), but I presume e-bay will still allow me to invoice/charge for £7.50 postage when bidding ends (tomorrow) as item was listed when £7.50 was allowed ?
Worried now as don't want to have to charge £4 (this already making a loss of £3.50 from selling price!), being as item sold is only starting at £6!
Does this mean people will put less bundles on now, or increase starting price ?

Yes your postage will stand as it was listed before the caps.

Ah thanks for your quick reply.
    I was hoping so.
After my not so good p and p ratings (although got it up to 4.5 now- getting better) I am being really careful to be as fair as I can, but a loss of over £3 would be a bit too fair lol. I did that once before by mistake with a parcel which was just under 2kg unwrapped and just over 2kg wrapped!

Assuming you mean several clothing items, why not list in Wholesale category.

Just in case other people think that you are referring to postage caps across Ebay, it is only in certain categories, details here http://sellerupdate.ebay.co.uk/april2010/free-shipping-replacement.html

In answer to your question, I typed the description into the first box in the selling section, and it came up with this suggested category. I have also seen many other bundles in this category so presumed this was ok, and have looked myself in the same category when buying this sort of item previously! 'Wholesale' was not suggested as a category for me, and tbh that name would make me thing of a job lot of one thing, or new stuff, not a small pile of used but good condition items.
The postage caps I refer to only apply to clothing and shoes, £4 and £6 respectively, as you point out, and have edited my original post to highlight this.
    Thanks for your help.

  • I'm glad I read this, I had missed the new postage limits for clothing.

They are having a laugh, aren't they? You obviously can't send a suit or even a heavy skirt for less than £4 so, guess what, you have to put it on the listing price and ebay get more money out of it!

What's more it doesn't stop those perishers who send a tshirt for £3.99 either.

If you take a look at the wholesale bit there's always loads of bundles, I always check there if I'm looking for clothes.
The caps they've put on are pretty low aren't they. I suppose bridal wear will come into it, I would assume that a wedding dress boxed will come in at a lot more than £4. Coats will. Mind you it's still got a lot going for it. How much would a shop cost that had as many people looking at your item in a day?

Just to say my bundles both sold and I was able to charge the postage I needed (as was listed the day before the caps came). Good job as one cost £4.45 and one cost £7.06 (04 ?) to post , wouldn't have minded absorbing the 45p but not £3.06 on an item that only went for £6!
