Ok to the right is our decking in progress and this is a bit we have left as wonky! plan is to dig it out and have pebbles in it and have 3 of those spherical silver balls..argument between me and dh is this:

I want it dug out so it is level with the above in it..this will mean there is a drop but it will be level, the guys doing the work can put more wood in to the right of the pic to neaten it up so none of the wall/cement will ruin it..i can visualise it but dh can't.

Dh says to have it leaning as it is so it is wonky but i think it could look odd?

Opinions? what would you do with it as work continuing thursday so need to decide! and clean the wall up looking at that pic as loks far worse than it is!
Thanks

  • Concrete laid with shiny pebbles, glass and sparkly stuff.

Get the right size pebbles that cats don't like if you're loose pebbling it.

Hi thanks..should have said i look after children so glass prob not a good idea. Pebbles are being changed now..would like gravel again as cats dont like but prefer the look of pebbles/stones
    Thanks

what about a little raised bed for veg? you could plant runners or peas next to the wall and whatever you like in the front.

V easy to level with the wood and then fill with compost etc

level it out like you say - sloping would look wrong! You could put a small water feature fountain or something so you can enjoy that lovely trickiling water sound when on the decking - maybe one of those stone balls that water comes out of so there's no standing water to cause problems with children.

    niksyg hi thanks..

yes it being wonky will bug me..i know how i want to do it but dh can't get what i mean. Yesterday i asked the opinion of the men doing the decking and they completely threw me by saying it would look lovely with decked steps up (we have more garden above)..i don't agree and think it would look odd and we wanted to avoid any sort of steps etc, so that's a no!

As for the water feature we would live but we have a town house and no water supply to the back of the house..one of the downflass in a way but liveable!

think when the rain stops i will start digging it out and see what i can do with it..cant look much worse anyway!

    Thanks for the reply x

Ohh yes veggies, perfect little space, a bit of netting or wire mesh placed over it, will stop any cats.

If you grew in modules till they were ready, you could have salad leaves for absolutely ages from that, or you could grow climbing beans and have a huge crop from that area.

Whatever you do, please remember to post a pic of the finished article...

I think if you are having the big balls that trickle water out of the top then having them stepped would look great.

Hi thanks guys for the replys.

Ok today i dug the grass out and levelled it out best i could down to soil..well it was just horrible mud and rocks so pretty hard..took ages and totally knackering despite not looking much!..i then put weed suppresant down and washed 3 huge backs of black rocks we got and started putting them down..even though i wasn't 100% they look pretty good all down together and black when wet but grey when dry ..but after doing one bag i realised that we didn't have enough..need prob another 2-3 so another £30 meaning its going to cost around £60 to do eek! still hopefully cat proof and low maintanance.

Ordering balls tomorrow so should have it all done by monday night then can add the balls when they come..i will post pics when done.

Thanks for all your suggestions x
