You will now be able to get an account in your new name, but there's no higher chance of acceptance, as the new name will be linked to the old one.

If you are struggling to get an account, try for a basic one.

    Two of the best are:

  • how will the new name be linked to the old one ?

how will the new name be linked to the old one ?

You generally (always?) have to give details of any previous names and addresses for the past three years when applying for a current account.
  • what if u lie , which is what i suspect this poster is suggesting ?

    That's fraud.

It also would serve no purpose - as the new name wouldn't have any credit history associated with it, so the poster would still be in no position to get a full current account.

Definitely the best bet is to open one of the accounts linked to in post 2.
  • Im not commiting fraud....thank you for you help...I have had previous family problems thats the reason for name change im hoping this will give me a fresh start thats all.

Ok ill try the bank accounts suggested above, many thanks

I changed my name as well (I took my partners surname, no fraudulent reason!) and I have accounts in both names - I did find it easier to get credit in my new name but that again wasnt any fraudulent reason - I was honest about my old name but sometimes they didnt ask - I would have been happy to tell them if they'd asked me! The accounts in my old name are mainly from before when I changed my name and mainly because apparantly my new name is too long for some cards! :rotfl:
