So nervous for interview tomorrow.. :(

Hi everyone -

I have a job interview tomorrow where there are only around 22 positions and 160 people being interviewed. Naturally I am super nervous - I have been popping Kalms and Bachs Rescue Remedy like there will be no tomorrow!

Does anyone have any tips to get through the stress and overcoming the 'brain freeze' that I often get?

Thanks :o

    Good luck!

Just try to chill and think! Its that easy.

If you are chilled (or pretend to be) and can think quickly you have a good shot at it.

Just know that every single person that has a interview is nervous, you are not alone.

    Again, good luck to you.

  • Run through potential questions & the answers (in your head, on paper or with another person) as interviewers usually want examples of when you have done this or that & these can be hard to think of off the top of your head.

Also plan how you're going to get to your interview & what you're going to wear so you don't turn up late or get so flustered you can't think straight.

    Good luck

You have been given some good tips. Just try and relax and be yourself. Try and think of any tricky questions you think you might get asked - for example anything technical that is specific to the job, so you are well prepared.

Also try and think about your positive and negative attributes. I know no one likes to think about the negatives but employers love to ask you about them. Have a think of an example but make sure that you can turn it into a positive :) Thinking about what you have to offer an employer can help you feel more confident too.

Just be as prepared as you can

You'll be fine, all the best :)

    Hi all

Thanks for the advice so far -

The problem is with this interview is that I don't technically know where I'll be working - it is just representatives that are interviewing me - so I can't tailor it specifically to one place IYSWIM?

Also, I have a list of potential questions - but I will only be asked 4 of these. This is the issue I'm faced with - there is so much information that can be answered for all of these sample questions (about 20) and I only really need to know 4.

Worried my mind will just go completely blank!

    Thanks again

Read through the job description and your application form to remind you what the job is about and what you said in order to get an interview. Plan to arrive early - I travel via public transport so always aim to arrive with 20minutes to spare so I have time to find the place and take some deep breaths rather than having to rush in.
If you get asked a question and your mind goes instantly blank take a breath to relax before answering, or take a sip of water - I always ask if I can have a glass of water during an interview because my mouth goes dry.
Make sure you have breakfast, skipping it because of nerves won't do you any good.

    Good luck :)

Remember to smile OP. It really does make a difference to how you feel even if it's just at yourself in the loo mirror before the interview... But try not to recenact The Shining.

Good luck :) (and stop eating the chemicals)

Remember is it not a test and the interviewers are not out to trip you up or fail you. There are no right or wrong answers, only honest ones. They want to see if you are the best person for the job and that your particular skills will meet their business needs. Go in there with a big smile, bags of (faked if necessary) confidence and keep reminding yourself you are the best person for the job.

Oh and if you meet any of the other candidates, take everything they say with a pinch of salt as they may try to psych you out.

Take a copy of your application form and the JD with you (in a smart folder, if possible). I also always take a pad and pen as well (not in a tatty carrier bag!). Personally, I would have answered all twenty questions in writing ahead of the application, so whichever ones they ask I would have had an answer - or at least the outline of an answer to flesh out.

    Good luck!

Run through some competancy based questions as well (unless you know it's not a competancy based interview), I prepared loads for mine and it turned out to be all competancy based so I had to think on my feet. Which was okay, I had no contstructive critcism at all; though I didn't get the job :-(

Usual ones are things like "tell me of a time you had a challenge and what did you do?" and "give me an example of when you had to meet a deadline and how you approached that?" Good luck!!
