    Tiff,
So sorry for your situation, my father died in February from terminal cancer...

No body told us that when dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness he could claim for Attendance Allowance (£62.25/week) - I could even claim for him. He did not even require to have an attendant to claim. Phone the helpline - 08457 123 456 quoting "Special Rules", The allowance is back dated to the time of your call.

    All the best,
    John

I'm truly sorry for your loss John.
It's a shame that we don't get issued with a benefits guide automatically - eg. doctors surgeries - by DWP. If only the GP/Social Worker/ etc. can't press a computer button that would kick start the system automaticallyfor you & get all relevant departments co-ordinating & helping. Some people aren't aware of benefits & don't have access to information via the internet so they lose out if they don't stumble over the answers. And when you need these benefis you're usually already in crisis & maybe can't think straight.
For the special rules do you have to have an expected date of death? Thank you for your advice John. Best Wishes, Maria

Sounds like you are both having a hard time.

I know I have said this before and it is easy for me to say it. But it is only money they can't take what she does not have. If she has no assets they can do very little.

Best to talk to someone like CCCS and payplan links at the top of the forum. They do all the leg work for you. They have clout so it is not so much like banging your head against a brick wall.

All the best to both of you.

    Yours
