Hi,
I am lucky enough to be staying in Pittenweem from Good Friday for a week. I have two children (8 and 10) and we will be looking for things to do that will be fun but won't break the bank. We will of course be flying kites and walking on the beech but would also like to go to a few 'attractions'. If anyone knows of anywhere that is good value for money (don't mind spending a bit if it's worth it) or of any money off vouchers for anything I would be grateful. We don't mind a bit of a drive out either.
Thanks in advance,
Amanda , hubby and kids!! :rotfl:

As a child I used to love going to Dunfermline Glen ( aka Pittencrief Park), it is basically a park, free but there is a bit to see, I used to love seeing the "Giants Boots" in the museum, visiting the aviary and playing in the paddling pool - http://www.fifedirect.org.uk/atoz/index.cfm?fuseaction=facility.display&facid=3D027727-4747-4FC9-83E667386CF5D1D0
There are also other things to do in Dunfermline and historically it is a place of importance - Robert the Bruce is buried there and I use to love visiting St Margaret Queen of Scotland's statue. For other things to do; check out

Obviously, Edinburgh castle is a must do and when I was little I got an activity book for a couple of pounds in the castle shop and you could go around hunting for things (like the dog cemetry) and that was alot of fun! In the centre of Edinburgh, Greyfriar's Bobby's statue is free to see and is a cute thing to hunt out if you get your kids to research the story/watch the film beforehand.0 -
Thank you 'miss-independant'! I have added the park / glen to my list! I have done a bit of searching on the internet and thought I'd add a few I'm planning on going to for anyone reading this thread because they are visiting the area.
National Museum of Scotland (Edinburgh) - Free
Museum of Childhood (Edinburgh) - Free
I'm planning on spending some of my budget on the Camera Obscura + World of Vision (again Edinburgh), it will cost us just under £30 for our family of 4, but has excellent reviews.
I'm considering Edinburgh castle but it will be £36 for us all so not sure yet.0 -
Your in luck--im from Fife!!!
Pittenweem is a lovely little town, with the harbour, fresh catches from the boats etc. Its a fab drive right along the coast, theres Anstruther with its award winning fish n chips, Crail, Elie etc etc. I would say you have to go to St Andrews, theres the old course, the golf museum, plus an array of shops, bars and restaraunts, but the beach is always ace--lots of people kiting, kite surfin and all that--u can drive along the road for quite a bit along the esplanade. Close to Crail is the Secret Bunker--Just google it! Its an old nuclear bunker, which is a different kind of attraction.
If your goin to Edinburgh, id get the train there, a great coastal ride, then over the forth rail bridge-its very nice, and a cheap day return isnt that expensive The Edinburgh Dungeons are a must, its just up from the train station, i think its great for all ages, and the actors are excellent--most are drama student from the uni. Also "Mary kings close" is another great thing to do--it basically takes u underneath Edinburgh, through the old streets, telling you tales of the plague--very good fun! Princess st is great for shopping, and theres places to eat/drink everywhere.
Theres loads to do, if i think of anything else i will update.
Any questions then im happy 2 help.
