Hi all,I am trying to get started with linux, ubuntu, and I am having problems installing some programes. I have downloaded
thunderbird and flashplayer, for thunderbird a message box pops up to tell me I have to secify a path to my email client via the options panel and this function is disabled.
I havn't tried anything with flashplayer as I suppose its the same problem.
I am new to this system and I understand specify a path via the options panel but where is the path and I cant see a options panel, help please I dont want to go back to MS.

Have you installed them using the Ubuntu Software Centre? If not, do it that way.
Though it sounds like Thunderird is asking you to set up your email account - who's it with?Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

for flash player on x86/32bit systems, just click the dropdown list (on the adobe download page) and select the .deb option. double click it once it's finished and it should install.
64bit versions of ubuntu need a slightly different version of flash so it might be a bit harder to install.0 -

or flash it's best to use "flashplugin-nonfree" it will install a slightly older version of flash but it will work with no hassles.
For thunderbird best bet is to use the software center to install it.
Then when you start it it may look for an old copy to copy settings from, you can usually ignore it and cancel it if it's a clean install.Laters

I confirm other comments about just using the Software Centre (Add/Remove programs).
For Flash and other stuff which is non freedom stuff, most of it is installed in one hit from the Software Centre in the package

I would recommend you to get used to using "Synaptic" to install software. Installing with .deb files is easy but then you may not receive any critical updates.
Here is a good free guide if you are just getting into Ubuntu: (Sorry - new users can't post links hence the gaps etc...)
