re-painting tiles advice

Hello
Looking for advice from you DIY people.. our kitchen has white tiles, the top row used to have a pattern on them but the previous owners painted over it.. the pattern is starting to show through and looks really bad so I need to paint over it.
What I want to know is do I need special tile paint? or can I just use some of the white satin that I've been painting my door frames or any other type of paint?
Tile paint is expensive and I don't need much.. so I'm looking for a cheaper option as I already have some other paints!
Thanks
Bex

Might it not just be worth replacing the top row of tiles? £20 all in for mats (unless they are an unusall size)0 -
The top tiles are half size ones.. I know replacing would be the best option but think it may be more hassle than its worth as need to get it done very quickly as selling house.. I'm just touching up to make it look tidy and don't fancy trying to replace the tiles and risk making more of a mess than I started and then having no time to sort out.. I'm not great at DIY and have never done any tiling except for replacing a broken one in the bathroom which was a right palava!0

When you say 'the pattern is starting to show through' is this because the paint has chipped off or just worn thin evenly? If it's chipped off you're going to need to strip it of altogether if you want a decent painted finish as painting on top will leave the contoured effect showing more clearly. If it's smooth, or once it's smooth, then you will get away with any good exterior durability gloss/mat paint.0

Good question I will check this..! I really hope they aren't chipped as I don't want to have to strip them.
So it has to be exterior paint if not tile paint? My Satin stuff won't do?0
