Potential Buyer asking of own courier.

Hi there.

I'm selling an oven on ebay. I have put the postage down as £80 (The box says it weights 50,146kg  but i am thinking its 50.146kg)

A ebayer has just asked me if they buy it, can they arrange their own courier as the £80 seems a little steep. She has over 250 positive feedback so she seems legit. But i know theres a chance of a paypal claim.

What would people do in this situation?

Thanks.

Can you get another courier to quote? Ask which courier they have in mind, and you'll get them to quote.

The , instead of the . is because it's European, and they use commas for decimal places.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Ah right cheers. When I first was looking for quotes i put in 50,146 kg and they went mental.

Iv ask her for her postcode so I can do a proper estimate for her.

50kg is very heavy and is going to be expensive - most cheap carriers will not go above 30kg or so.

The problems with the buyer arranging carriage is how you have proof of sending or delivery and who is responsible if it is damaged or goes missing.

Even if using a buyer's carrier, you still have the cost of package the oven for delivery. Then there's your time spent waiting for the courier to collect - hopefully on the stated day/time.

Never let buyers dictate your postage terms. As Mrs W says there is your time waiting etc. You then have the problem if something goes wrong when the item is with the courier. Who deals with this? What proof of delivery will you have for any paypal claim. It just opens a can of worms if a buyer sorts out their own courier

    Thanks for your replies.

I am aranging delivery now. Iv put it on Shiply so am waiting for a few quotes and will then pick the best. Its already boxed up so there's no problem with that as its never been taken out of the box.

If you charge reasonable postage this never happens. If a buyer asks to use a courier its probably because you are charging excessive postage. Charge reasonable postage and both you and the buyer will be happy, remember its the BUYER who is paying for the postage, you wouldnt be happy if he sent you £10 less than the item sold for, charging £10 more than the postage costs is indefensible.
Remember excessive postage puts off the majority of buyers and your item will undersell as a result, you also run the risk of negative feedback as excessive postage is strictly against ebay rules.

Your response has nothing to do with the post you quoted! Who mentioned charging an extra £10 for postage? On a side note, it really bugs me when people use the word, 'remember' in the context you have, it sounds so patronising.

Is there any way that you can open and reseal the box without damaging it?
As it stands, you currently have no way of confirming that all the accessories (if any should be included), the instructions, warranty info etc are actually in there.
Also, if your buyer was to claim that the oven was damaged, you wouldn't know if this was down to the courier, your buyer, or if it was already like that when it was delivered to you.
