Council property help

Sorry if this isnt relevant to this board but it could be moneysaving to me.

I have a very old fireplace in my lounge, tiles that broke caused my then OH to replace himself (about 2yrs ago but he must have taken the gas fire out to do this!!!!-knows what hes doing but NOT corgi registered) He replaced the bottom part (hearth?) with a piece of marble which has now broke and is quite sharp!!

My question is does anyone know if the council will take the whole fireplace place out at maybe no cost to me but on the other hand they could charge me over the odds (as they sometimes do)

Maybe it might be better to get it done myself I dunno

Help cant leave it like it is for much longer because of my kids...its dangerous!!

  • Best bet is to ask. The council took out my fireplace (at my request) before i moved into this property when they were renovating. They do say that any renovations inside the property have to be cleared with the council first. If you told them that it was quite dangerous as it is, they may help you out, or at least meet you half way with repair costs.

    Good luck.
