Contacting a seller

hello,

I purchased this last week and tried to put it together on Thursday, however some of the silver poles have not been drilled properly and the base shelf seems to not have screw holes in to help the whole thing to be secure. Currently its upside down in the lounge as it isnt stable to put the right way up because of the shelves....

On Friday I emailed the seller and again Sunday and she still hasnt got back to me. I went into Homebase to see if I could buy smaller screw which would fit into the holes but no thats not possible. Then I found out that Homebase actually sell the same shelf unit and they say they do a spares service which I may be able to obtain replacement poles from .... However, I will likely have to pay for them, plus the call so am currently putting that off until I know whether the seller may have some spares....

I have tried to request her telephone number but the site says its not available.

I don't know whether to just start the process with paypal as the item is not as described/not fit for purpose - I was trying to be nice and give her the opportunity to sort it out first tho, up until now she was going to get amazing feedback as I only ordered it last Sunday evening and it arrived Tuesday morning!

Oh come on 41 views and no answers!!

Thanks

Jen

  • It does say on the listing to get in touch if there're any problems with the item. Which you've done. Maybe send another email stating that if the seller doesn't respond you're going to open a dispute? Because if it's new and unopened (as stated) then it shouldn't be in an unfit condition and you should be entitled to a refund.

If she continues to not respond to contact, I'd open a dispute. It's not like you didn't try and sort it out yourself.

It isnt new and unopened as I had to build it in order to find out about these problems. I have sent another email stating that if I dont receive satisfactory response by 8pm then I will open a dispute and will give her negative feedback too die the lengths I have had to go to in order to contact her.

    The listing states
THIS ITEM IS BRAND NEW. NEVER BEEN OPENED OR OUT THE BOX.

this is what Kaleidoscope27 is refering to.

You should not 'threaten feedback'. If you want the problem resolving, then deal with it in a professional manner.

You should always copy emails via Ebay messages as spam filters can filter your complaints out without the seller knowing. If you feel you have waited a sufficient amount of time, then open a dispute. This usually gets the sellers attention, if it doesn't then escalate to a claim.

At the end of the day, you want the problem resolved. The seller can force you to send everything back (at your cost) to get your refund.

Looks like he's selling Argos returns. That'll be why Homebase sell the same.

    Have you tried phoning him.

The op is unable to get the phone number. I would open a dispute that may get their attention at least and you may get a response. Just state in the dispute that you have attempted to contact them but had no response

    hi,

Yes, I know I shouldnt "threaten feedback" but it usually puts the fire up people to deal with a situation .... unfortunately not in this case it seems.

I would return it to them, paypal would more than likely refund me and rule in my favor (past experience as a seller tells me so) and then I would also likely get postage costs too! However, I have done my best to deal with the situation and have offered an easy solution - no doubt she will repond to Paypal in a utterly appalled way and claim I have been totally unreasonable (also past experience as a buyer).

gavjbrown - yep, Im thinking the same .... just my luck to get one that actually has a problem.

Yes I have also tried to get the buyers phone number but Ebay seems to be refusing to give me - seeming to suggest that the purchase was in the past so I can't contact them.

By threatening FB all you will do is annoy people and if they can make it difficult for you they will. You will get far more understanding co operation out of peopel if you deal with them in a polite professional manner than if you start threatening them with consequences

Paypal can only enforce the INITIAL payment you made, so your purchase plus outward postage. They CANNOT enforce the returns postage you WILL pay in returning the item.

That aside, if Ebay are not giving the number and you have had no contact from the emails, then a dispute is the only way forward. However, bear in mind what I have said re postage. You will have to ship the item back at YOUR cost unless they are a business seller and their returns procedure says they will reimburse.
