So you don't agree with Davey boys electioneering?

We have a culture now where the lazy are rewarded. Didn't work hard at school? Never mind. Just do a low paid job or no job and those that worked hard at school will look after you and all your children. Those on benefits tend to breed the next lot of benefit claimants.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Oh if that was the truth and we all started life on a equal footing. Your last point is probably true but is it the fault of the children if David Cameron was born into a benefit claiming family on a big council estate do you still think he would be leader of the Conservatives. Before you accuse me of being a whinging lefty would Gordon Brown be Prime Minister if the same had applied to him. There are obviously some exceptions but if you really believe every body has the same chance you are seriously deluded

No not everyone has the same chance but the less well of are not encouraged to got out and do a full time job, it may interfere with their benefits.
I will probably get shot down for the next comment but the worst thing that this government did was bring in the minimum wage. A lot of employers now pay this rate or a little above knowing that their employee will get top ups.

To say low paid people are lazy is utter rubbish,to rate them along side the work shy is utterly wrong and is an insult to all those who work hard for not a lot in return.
Do you ever consider that some people just are not academic enough to do degrees or what ever, this does not mean that they are lazy.
Also the ones who don't try at school are usually the ones who never work at all.

i won't be staying up to watch. i suspect the tories will get in. and i'd rather have a few hours more kip in blissful ignorance.

You need specific quotes in order to accept or believe the government policy of denegrating any idea of cuts by the Tories prior to the last couple of weeks??!!?? My god if only I had the time...

Do you even watch the News or PMQ's? You really should you know!

Similarly, Cameron used in his response to the budget a quote from a senior labour source/think tank describing the 250k stamp duty change as 'unworkable'

That might be true but the fact that your parents are on benefit when you are born is just a matter of luck.

As for your last point why would they pay them more if they know they are going to be topped up surely they would pay them less.

Also if you think people weren’t rewarded for doing nothing before labour got in you are mistaken.

Something needs to be done I agree Labour have tried with working tax credits etc but that has failed I’ve seen George Osborne say the Tories will but he hasn’t said how so I’m not convinced he has a working solution.

But do you think Richard Branson should be receiving help to pay his fuel bills icon7.gif as Davey seems to think.

And that, of course, this is half the problem. What's the point of working and saving if any increases in wages are going to be wiped out by losses in benefits?? It effectively means you are working twice as hard - but staying still. Its hardly surprising that some have done the sums and realise it just isn't worth it.

Whats the point in working all your life, scrimping and saving, when, come retirement, you see people who have lazed on their backsides all their lives getting everything paid for, while you have to wipe out nearly all your savings before you will get any state entitlements? :( I firmly believe that if you have worked for it, and saved it, you should be entitled to keep it, to help it support you. However there are limits - and if you are sitting on a cash nest egg in excess of £100k (like the pensioner in LJ's original story) then I suggest you should count your blessings and stop whinging.:p That pensioner just sounded like a bigoted prat, IMO, complaining about handouts to someone who was disabled serving his country . But that is getting OT, so best left for now.:o

The fact is that there are quite a few pensioners around today who are sitting pretty - they have had job stability, and quite a few had final salary pensions. How many of us can say that these days?:( However there are also those who, for differing reasons, have worked hard, been responsible - and lost it all (anyone had their pension fund wound up? Equitable Life? Mirror Group Pensioner?? - to name but a few.) None of this was their fault. For every pensioner that is sitting on a nest egg, there is one on their uppers. You have to have a safety net. But I also see no reason for rewarding those who have done diddly squat all their lives.

Errm, you can't pay less than the minimum wage - thats why its the minimum :o but otherwise I agree.

WTC has helped to keep wages deliberately low. It's enabled people to stay in jobs which otherwise, would not pay enough to make it worthwhile. Surely it would be better to pay a more realistic wage in the first place? But businesses don't like that - they would have to raise the price of their goods, therefore making them less competitive. A better way IMO would be to raise the tax free allowances. Then - if you work - you get the benefit of it. If you don't work - then you don't get.
