Could this all be part of the Lloyds integration project?

I don't know what their plans are, but perhaps they want to keep BoS on a different system to Halifax to enable a quick sale of BoS or a merger of Lloyds TSB Scotland into BoS?

The OP has a BOS Reward account, this is exactly the same as a Halifax Reward account, it's a current account.

It seems a very strange situation.

Exactly - the accounts are the same, hence the fact I am nonplussed as to why it's not possible now, when it was before.

To avoid time delays I don't want to post cheques to BoS, I'd rather pay them over the counter at a local branch of Halifax, Lloyds TSB, whatever.....and the closest to me is a Halifax agency with counter services. The local Lloyds TSB branch had no idea whether they could do this or not :rotfl:

I'll put another call into BoS directly to see what their view is.

Have you tried paying in without the card? Write the account number, sort code and roll number on a piece of paper and had it over. Perhaps they just have a phobia of the card being BoS (or perhaps the agency are on lower commission for BoS transactions?)
  • Except for the small but glaring problem that Halifax sort codes are 11-xx-xx and BoS sort codes are 80-xx-xx so it will be quite easy for them to see which brand it is :)

OK so I called Bank of Scotland customer relations. Whilst giving me no reason why Halifax Agencies would no longer transact cheque payments into my BoS Reward account over the counter, they stated that if the agency were adamant that this was the correct policy, they must be right and that my only option would be to post cheques up to my branch in Scotland, get an electronic fund transfer into my account (like I hadn't thought of that already) or go to a main Halifax branch 20 miles away.

Excellent. A move elsewhere beckons, possibly ending a 20 year relationship. First Direct perhaps, I know I could use a local HSBC branch with them. Although having just set up a joint Nationwide Flex account for my wife and I for her day-to-day use and our foreign travels, I'm a bit reticent of applying for another account for myself as it would likely mean another credit search.

BOS really went downhill after the merger with Halifax.
    Their customer services included.

Lloyds can pay your cheques and cash in as long as you have the pay-in book.
You fill in the pay-in slip and hand it to the cashier with the cheque/cash.
I wouldn't bother asking in Lloyds branch if they take BOS credits as they won't have been trained to give you a correct answer.

Give them the Roll Number then - these are all the same: D/********-*.

Tried that to no avail.....they are just not "having it", it would appear.

I've since called BoS customer relations again to register a formal complaint on the basis that I used to be able to use the local Halifax agency and now can not. I'm therefore significantly inconvenienced whilst getting no clarity as to what the actual policy is.

BoS called the agency again today and it was apparently the local Halifax "business development manager" who had advised them that they could no longer do BoS account transactions and indeed reprimanded them for doing so previously (the systems allow it, of course, as it used to be possible). In the meantime, the customer (me) is none the wiser but at least a formal complaint should get it clarified once and for all. Hopefully :o
