Santander - Overdraft Charges & Impossible to get hold of!!

Hi everyone,
I am soooooo angry this morning! Logged onto my internet banking to see that I have 2 charges taken out of my account
On 17th Feb I paid for a train ticket which took me a whole 26p over my overdraft. Now they have charged me one lot of £25 and one lot of £5 for it. How f*cking ridiculous.
And so I go to give them a call and you need some ruddy telephone banking number (which I don't have) and they don't even give you the option of speaking to an advisor, you just get cut off!!
Now that they have taken these charges off me, I don't have enough cash in the account to cover my rent which goes out on the 1st. So I tried to amend my standing order so it would come out a couple of days later. MORE PROBLEMS! Even though I am only changing the date it says the reference I have entered is in the wrong format - I havent even changed it from what it was before!!!!!!
So, anyone got another number for Abbey that isnt their general enquiries/customer service one and what do you reckon the chances are of me getting back the £30 they have taken for a measly 26p?!!!
ARRRGGGHHHH!!! What a way to start the day!

Move to a proper bank! That's my only real advice. Even Barclays would 'only' have charged you £22, and you can phone the branch directly still.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
Do something amazing. GIVE BLOOD.0 -
I believe RBS would have charged you £50

No chance with the charges I think. I've never incurred any with them but they're notoriously militant and it was in your T&C's etc etc and so on.
Telephone banking numbers are 5 digits...I think.
When they issued me a duff one I kept putting it in and they said I had entered details and would connect me to an advisor. Once there I requested a replacement telephone banking number and did whatever banking I needed to do following some security questions.
I did this loads of times (entering my duff number not requesting new numbers each time!!) in the 4 weeks it took for my telephone banking number to come through. Occasionally you may get someone who will refuse to help you without a telephone banking number so hang up and redial to get someone else. It's frustrating but it's all par for the course with Santander and you just become used to it.0 -
You could try and get them to remove the charge if it was a first and solitary charge - this will probably work.
However, it is clearly imprinted in the terms that you will be charged fees if you exceed your agreed limit - be it by a penny or a pound. If you were so close to your limit, perhaps the best thing to do would have been to ask for an increase thus avoiding the unauthorised charges.0 -
They notify on you statement giving you 3/4 weeks notice of charges so you should have dealt with it before they came out. That way you could have got them to waive them and not had all this trouble!0
