I need to get started with a better dental care routine for my dog! He's 15 months old now - although he does let me brush his teeth it's such a struggle as I'm trying to brush and he's trying to eat the toothpaste before I even get chance to brush!! :rotfl:So I have sort of given up trying! Bad I know
Has anyone tried either of these?
My vet (who was trying to sell it to me!) recommended this one:

or
I saw this one myself on their website - good reviews.

Both will work out cheap enough for me as they should last quite a long time but I don't really know which one to go for?
Let us know how you get on with trying the plaqueoff Vicx?0 -
Hi catlou, I will post back to let you's know if the PlaqueOff is effective or not. (That's If I have any fingers left after trying to brush his teeth :rotfl: ).
I havent tried either of the products you posted. The 'simply seaweed and parsley' product doesnt actually say what it does but it probably be the same as the PlaqueOff product, that is seaweed too (the smell is awful but only a tiny bit is needed). The PlaqueOff has really good reviews on the petmed website, I just can't see how it will work but I wanted to give it a tryA home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
I stopped after 1 tub of the stuff actually. My two didn't eat much wet then. However I have been using Logic oral hygine gel daily (I put it on a cotton wool bud & run it either side of their mouths) - the vet says it's keeping their teeth getting any worse, in fact the Tom's gums are better & some of the plaque has fallen off.0

The only thing I have tried that has made a difference to doggos teeth has been a nice raw bone - she is not keen on me brushing her teeth (will let me do it, but clamps her jaws shut so I can only do the outside of the teeth) and I am not at all convinced about dental chews, especially the ones with pumice in - they tend to be so soft that my dog eats them in about four bites with very little chewing.
The flat rawhide (peppermint) ones last a lot longer though (at least 5 minutes!), but she has them so rarely I cannot tell a difference.0 -
I used Plaque off regularly on my old dog Billy(11) and then due to circumstances I did not for about 6 months- and his teeth are much worse so he is going to have to have them scaled!
The Plaque Off alters the PH levels in the mouth and I am using it again .
My dogs don't object to eating it and I think it's a small price to pay if it keeps their teeth in reasonable condition. The thing is that Billy will not chew so even if I give him a hide chew he just carries it around!
My new hound is a chewer and i give her a raw chicken wing regularly- it took her a while to understand that raw chicken is yummy but I am sure the skin and sinews etc help to clean the teeth. Billy just tries to swallow the wing whole, so not for him!
Hope this helps

I am still continuing to use it on my dog. I have been giving him 1 scoop per day as his teeth are full of plaque. The label states to give my dog 1/2 - 1 scoop per day but I don't think 1/2 scoop would do much since the scoop is so tiny.
I have already noticed a difference in his breath, it is not as smelly so it must be doing something. It takes up to 8 weeks to notice a big difference so hopefully the plaque will soften over the next few weeks. I don't know how I am going to manage to brush it off though :rotfl: He cant eat hard chews/biscuits so I don't think it would fall off itself.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0
