Item no longer for sale.

Hi. I hope someone can help- I had an item for sale and cancelled all the bids because the item was no longer for sale. I kept cancelling the bids but in the last 30 seconds of the auction 3 bids came in and it sold. I have emailed the winner to explain the situation. Is there anything I can do to ensure that they dont send me a payment via paypal?
Thanks in advance

Email them and let them know the situation - they may be genuine and understanding and be okay about it.
Dont think there is anything you can do to stop them sending a payment - dont send them an invoice.
Were you not able to delete the item listing at all?Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
I would have thought that you've done all you can. You've emailed the winning buyer, you will have to wait for them to reply.
Why was the item suddenly no longer available in the last 12 hours of the auction?-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

I don't think you can officially cancel an auction once there are bids, can you?
I once had to cancel an auction because I'd lost the item, but it was less than 12 hours to go so I just had to keep cancelling the bids as they appeared and messaging people to explain. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. Yes you can cancel an item with bids as long as it has longer than 12 hours left. If the OP had done this people wouldn't have been able to continue bidding.
If you say it's broken I'd hope they wouldn't want to pay for it

You can't actually cancel an auction but instead you can end an auction early as long as there is more than 12 hours remaining.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Thanks everyone for your quick responces.
It was only a 24 hour auction and I tried to cancelled it because my husband sold it to a guy at his work. I cancelled all the bids as they came in and sent them a message telling them the problem. I also posted responces to questions saying that the item was no longer for sale. I havent had an email back from the winner yet but hope it will be ok.0 -

Don't forget that as you have a winning bidder they can leave feedback and may well choose to warn other buyers that you didn't go through with the sale.
