Joint tenancy and deposit HELP !!

hello everyone, please i need your advice on this matter
My friend and i took a 6 months joint tenancy agreement, but the rent was coming out of my account so i collect his share of the rent monthly. we had a fall out just before the contract ended and then problem started. when i vacated the house i made sure my room and kitchen and bathroom was clean and left his room and living room (they are his responsibilities). before this, he was due to pay me the last month`s rent, he contacted me the next day i moved out saying he had to clean the house again, including my room and for this he would deduct £20 from the rent he was due to pay me . a week after, the estate agent sent both of us a letter with a list of outstanding areas(mostly his room and living room, mine mentioned once) that needed to be cleaned.
i approached the agent and explained that my flatmate charged me money for cleaning and i should no longer be responsible for any outstanding cleaning. the issue now is that if either one of us do not go and clean the property again, the agent would deduct the money from both our bonds.
they also said the bond would be halved and paid to each one of us, and they cannot deduct the money from his bond alone even though it is his mess outstanding on the property.
shouldn't the money come to me as a lump sum as i was the one paying the rent by direct debit?
advice needed and appropriated.
thanks

No. You are jointly liable for everything. It makes no difference whose account the rent comes from.0

You are jointly reliable for the whole house as you signed a joint tenancy together, rather than renting an individual room. It would be like moving in with your partner and charging them if they had failed to clean the kitchen properly, if that was allocated to them to sort before leaving
Sorry to say but it's a joint tenancy, so its a joint issue. You should both get half the deposit back, once any deductions have been taken, and you should get your £20 back off your cheeky housemate
