I bought an expensive digital camera from Asda last month.
Unfortunately i have just realised that i have lost the receipt. I have looked everywhere for it. I paid for the item alon on my credit card.
I asked today at the camera desk if i could have a replacement receipt so i can ensure my camera would be covered for rest of 12mths since purchase. They said no its not possible.
Any advice on what i can do or ask Asda? They told me as i have no receipt they cant honour 12mth warranty for camera too. arghh Help!

Has the item actually broken or such or is just that you want to be safe in case it does break in the future?
Did you complete the warrenty card and send it off?All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Did you take the credit card statement in with you? What sort of camera was it? Chances are if anything does happen to go wrong they may cover you from you having proof on your statement.
As the previous poster says if you completed the warranty card and sent it off the manufacturers should have proof of the day you bought it.
I can see both sides of the story here though - you want a copy of the receipt for peace of mind and Asda may be able to dredge through receipts or computer records to see you bought it when you say you did. However Asda also have to guard against fraudulent claims etc too.Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
camera was a caso z60 £140. Camera is okay luckily. I wosh to have the receipt in case it breaks down.
i only have credit card statement which shows asda - date - price.0 -
I used to be a customer service manager at Asda, and they CAN produce a duplicate reciept on their 'SMART' system. Even easier if you know the date you bought the camera and have your credit card number. I would go and see the Customer Service Manager and he/she should be able to do this for you without too much hassle.
Hope this helps,

You dont need a receipt provided you can prove that you bought the item on said date. Either a CC statement, debit card statement, even a friend who was with you. Its not written down in law that shops have to even give a reciept.

Q7. Do I have to produce a receipt to claim my rights?
No. In fact the trader doesn't have to give you a receipt in the first place so it would be unfair to say that you had to produce one. However, it might not be unreasonable for the shop to want some proof of purchase, so look to see if you have a cheque stub, bank statement, credit card slip etc., and this should be sufficient.0 -
You would have to show that it was purchased within 12 months to ask them to honour a 12 month agreement - though as poppycat says, this doesnt necessarily have to be a receipt. It does not have to be stipulated in a warrenty as it is a basic concept of law - like a knife manufacturer doesnt have to say that if you use it to stab someone that you and not them are responsible. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
