Freelander, which one ?

Have been looking at the Freelander for a while now and have decided to go for one and part ex mine.

Given a choice of the GS 58 plate, 8000 miles or a 56 plate HSE, 30000, both same price within a few pounds, which would be the best choice ? They are both approved dealer vehicles so will come with warranty etc.

Love the spec of the HSE, sun roof, satnav and heated seats etc - I do around 20000 miles a year so like my creature comforts. But can't decide ! Would hope to keep it a good while, unless the family expands and I need to go to a 7 seater, in which case the Discovery would be the choice.

Any thoughts appreciated, as I am a ditherer !:D

Dont know what the spec is on the GS, and although I do like the creature comforts I would be inclined to go for the newer model - they are not the most trouble free motors so the newer it is the more likely initial build issues have been ironed out.

Also factor in the the 58 plate will not need an MOT until late next year, but the older one will already be in MOT teritory

Given your highish mileage that would also lend itself to the lower mileage one - in 3.5 years the older one will have 100K on it but the younger one will be around 78K - if you needed to change you tend to find that for many the 100K mark is a psychological barrier!

Also have you done a national search - I think that Landrover will move stock around if you see one you want to buy from another dealer.

    Freelanders....hmmm.

Definitely not a car to run if you need absolute reliability.:o

The quality is patchy to say the least with some potentially very expensive faults.

Do plenty of research on the pitfalls of ownership before committing your cash.

My sister must be very lucky then, her's was 5 years old on 1st March and she has never had any trouble with it. In fact she is thinking about a new one.

Didn't think that the disco's were to hot in that department either
  • Given the mileage I do and more short trips than long, decided against the Disco due to the fuel consumption, though ultimately if I end up needing a seven seat then it would be the better option. So at present a 5 seat 4WD, hence the Freelander as decent mpg.

Not keen on XC90 as have not had good experience with previous Volvo I had. I do need a 4WD so a people carrier not much use, as I have a horse and need to get to stables even in bad weather, though don't tow as don't currently have a trailer.

That is nice to hear but there are more bad stories than many potential buyers would be prepared to risk.
