should i stay where i am or shall i move?

Hi there,

I just wanted some advice on what to do.

My mom has jus been given an house due to a relative passing, now this house has needs alot of work doing, we are going to have to bring the toilet downstairs so we have 3 bedrooms (currently got 2), then we have to do the kitchenwhich means ripping all the cupboards out, lowering the celing and then installing a new kitchen with tiles plus the flooring. The 2nd bedroom needs to be re-plastered, along with flooring etc etc. Also the whole house need re-wiring too, plastered etc etc, we have a bloody lot of work to do here.

My mom has given me and my partner the house, (as we are currently in a council house) but she only wants to spend £20k on it, and then she is going to have about £50k, and then we repay the loan back. This house has no mortage on it what so ever, but i dont want a cheap way of doing things as it will be passed onto me after 10 yrs, so i want it done properly. She is moanin about us having more money to do it up.

I need help and advice please on what to do!!

    Sorry, but I'm confused!

Your mum was given a house, and then she gave it to you. Then you say that the house will be passed onto you in 10 years - that makes no sense if it's already been given to you.

Is the loan for £20k or £50k? Has your mother given you £20k to do the house up, and then she expects you to give her £50k back? That seems a bit strange if she will still own the house.

Happy to try to help, but afraid I'm flummoxed right now.
