Well i can see your reasoning, but the 2 in 32010 has nothing to do with always authorise. Visa has a different number for each of its products
electron is assigned 32010 and 321010
There are always authorise visa debits, they have exactly the same number as normal ones which is 31010.
The code for always authorise is called the Mandatory auth code its hidded in the chip and strip. its either set to x0x for normal or x2x for Always authorise. Visa electrons are always set to x2x and visa debit is optional.
there is no way to see the code.
The problem with the co-op card is the AID number does not match up to the card type, some terminals are set to auto decline electron cards, so as soon as it reads the card type and sees 321010 it says no, even tho the card number is a perfectly vaild visa debit number.0 -
Just to let everyone know, when my electron card expired last month, I was issued with a visa debit card with exactly the same card number so it's still a visa electron, even though it's badged as a visa debit.
Still a pain in the backside when some online stores don't accept it, suppose I'm going to have to wait until 2013/2014 and get my account upgraded.BR 4/10/07

ive only had problems with oyster online refusing it. with some online places it works as 'visa debit' but with others its 'electron'.
the train thing is down to the company. not everyone accepts electron, nothing to do with co-op. I think Southern only started to accept them when paug oyster came into affect and they got new machines.0 -
450875 - Co-operative Bank Visa Debit Card (formerly Visa Electron) BIN this from Visa's own web site. AID 32010. So co-op need to change either or both numbers to get rid of the "electron" stigma. Apparently other banks (who previously had electron) have done this and now their "basic a/c" just shows as visa debit card. I am led to believe that they still require authorization but much more accepted as they have lost the electron tag.
If this assumption is correct then why/ when will co-op follow suit as at he moment it's so frustrating not knowing will retailer's machine accept or decline the co-op card.0
