RANT: Gumtree Scams

Also, out of interest, why should we not receive money through Western Union. I can see the problem paying for items this way, but what's wrong with receiving payment??
Nothing, as far as I can see. As soon as you are out of the WU office with your cash it can't be reversed - unlike a PayPal payment.
But the fact is that a scammer may promise to pay you via WU, but there will always be some "problem" that prevents them from actually doing it - so it's academic anyway.0 -
Beware of the following
...fake cheap ugg boots from China
...teeth whitening scams that set up a CCC that you can't cancel
...acai berries don't make you lose weight
...people that stop you in the street and ask to borrow £600 and promise to give it back to you tomorrow
Be alert.............Britain needs lerts!!!!!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I have had quite a bit of a laugh with these scammers, getting more and more come through by the minute.
They all think they are onto a winner.....
Shame when they realise that I am just wasting their time.0 -

Have you seen the websites that "professionally" scam the scammers? One of them replied to a Nigerian call for money (to cure his cancer etc) by offering a charity grant if the scammer could show artistic talent by carving a wooden bust of the anti-scammer's head in wood. And they did it! Google them - some are hilarious. 419eater is best:

Been having a laugh with this scammer lol
So I wanted offers of around £300 for this PC, he wants it so desperately and wants to pay for the delivery himself from his end, and wants to Western Union the money to me.
Of course, the media is drilled it home to everyone that Western Union is a big no go for people you dont know, for sales, etc so I declined.
We agreed that Paypal is going to be the best method, I told him I want £1000 for the PC and he was like "yes ok my friend, I will send now"
Hehe, needless to say, the money still hasnt shown up. But I was careful to give him a paypal address that I have never used, and will probably never use. It just sits there with £0 in it lol
problem is you are going along with a scam that will involve you receiving stolen funds from someones credit card.0 -

So a fake paypal email is receiving stolen funds then?
I got a fake paypal email today and it is so obvious as well. The £1000 that this scammer has "sent" never even existed..... hence why I havent got it.
Oh, and of course, Paypal are holding my payment in an escrow service until the buyer confirms delivery. I know Paypal now offer an escrow type service (meaning they with-hold the payment until delivery confirmation) but not for off-ebay transactions lol0
