Halifax Just Sent me the Da Vinci Code!

I'm helping reclaim my girlfriend's brother's bank chargers. I have written off with the template letter to receive a list of the chargers, which I have duly received. However, they've sent me about 300 pages of various chargers including all the details they hold on him. I take it I'll have to run through all the statements and individually add up the charges? What exactly should I be including in my calculations? Can I include cash advance fees? (There are a series of £2 charges for drawing out money on a credit card)?

The amount of charges he has paid are enormous running well into the thousands before even taking into account interest and cash advance fees, so I'm inclined to keep the figures low so the bank is more inclined to make me an offer, rather than dismiss the claim as rediculous.

I'm starting to realise the enormity of the challenge I've taken on!! :D

Primarily a current account, but he also had a credit card with them for a while so they've sent me about 50 pages with his statements for that as well!

No wonder they knew immediately who he was when I rang just by mentioning the surname (a very common English surname!!). It must have taken them ages to compile this!

Credit card charges are overlimit fees, excess fees and include the £12.00 ones and exclude the cash advance fees, ok?

I think there's enough going on with the current account so I'll pass on the credit card! However, they have not sent me a simple list of charges. More endless statements etc. where it is very hard to identify charges. Are they obliged to send a simple list, or are they being deliberately obtuse to make it difficult to claim?

If you used the latest template letter from this site, it asks for transaction lists (not lists of charges).

The company only needs to supply you the information it holds on you, not go to extra effort to produce reports or lists in the format you would like.

Why is it difficult to identify the charges from the statements they have supplied you?

I would add to Premier's post as well which is that if you didn't understand a charge then post up here and we could answer whether it is reclaimable or not. Furthermore, I would add that credit card reclaiming is easier than bank account reclaiming.
