    Certainly vague.;)

Look at this thread, it's short on hotel/motel recommendations but has links to places to go etc.
We did a similar trip in July 2005:

We stayed at Cape Cod at the Hyannis Harbor Hotel for $55 through priceline here's my review.
    and here's Tripadvisor reviews.
OK for the one night but wouldn't really recommend.

In Boston we stayed at the Hilton Logan Airport, $65 again through priceline.
    Review here.
    Tripadvisor review.
Good for the price but a slight hassle to get into town.

Stayed at Framingham Residence Inn for $50 through priceline, review here.
Well worth it for the breakfast and the pool, good clean room.Easy access to surrounding area, it's in fact closer to the T than I said. Obviously need a car.

Finally stayed at the Hilton in Dedham for $45 through PL. Review here.
    Varied reviews on Tripadvisor
Only stayed for one night, room was fine and location was good.

we stayed at a great motel in hyannis called the seacoast inn. the owners couldn't be more helpful. you can see it on tripadivsor. its next to the harbour and you can go over to nantucket for the day or marthas vineyard.just up the road is the main street and we ate in a couple of nice restaurants. the motel is spotless and you get a continental breakfast.
