South facing wall----ideas please
:j I have a shed ,approx 8ft high and 20ft long, the back wall faces south.
I would like to plant a fruit tree/plant to take advantage of the sun and warmth this provides. I already have apple, pear, plum and damson trees. Has anyone had success with figs or apricots or kiwi fruit? I would like the fruit to ripen and be edible please! Midlands area, neutral soil, loam over clay.

I have an apricot tree which is doing well, too well in fact! I tried to train it as a fan but it was too vigorous. I'm in the Midlands too. That position would suit a fig too. Not sure about kiwi fruit. I've never heard of anyone being successful with these. Although the site is south facing the tree won't have the warmth of a brick or stone wall, so it would have to be something that would tolerate cold winters.
Apricot, peach, nectarine, fig or grape would be my suggestions.0 -
A peach would be my first thought - other than which, any of conradmum's suggestions would go for me, too.0

Grapes will do very nicely on a south facing aspect and you can expect reliable heavy crops from a good variety. You will need to read up on pruning and training but it is not too difficult.Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!0
