There's nothing to stop him taking the money, but she would also be quite entitled to file a court case against him to pay back the half that was hers. This could land him a CCJ, and screw up his credit score for a LONG time, so it's not worth it.

If he's a man, he should take only his half. If he's a man, he should also discuss his wanting to leave with her, as just running away is cowardly!

He also needs to get the account frozen so that she can't then go overdrawn on it, as he'll still be responsible!

Why are we assuming that half is her's, he could be the only one paying in.

If it is in a joint account then it belongs to both of them.

I know a guy who did this, just drained the bank account and ran off. Left his disabled wife with 40 grand of debt and no way to pay, she had a stroke from the stress and died and he got all the inheritance money because she had no will. Tell his wife what he is planning and get her to start protecting her assets from him there is no telling how low he could sink.
my thoughts too, he sounds like a nasty peace of work to me

There are other threads on this forum where women are advising other women how to stash cash in readiness for moving out/throwing their husbands out.

Men are not as scheming as women, so this plan to drain the account and leave is simply the male version. All those who supported women removing money from the relationship to allow them to set up on their own should be supporting and agreeing with this man doing the equivalent.

Personally, I think women staying with a man, but planning to leave and saving up to do so, is just as bad as a man suddenly deciding enough is enough and leaving with what he can.

And I'll give it five posts before someone says that the wife has almost certainly been abused by the husband.

    Hi

My friend and his wife have all their money in joint accounts and he wants to leave her. He's not bothered about divorcing he just wants to go!

I'm trying to convince him otherwise but he's under the impression he can transfer all their joint money to the account solely in his name and be scot-free with no recompense.

Personally, I'm assuming that the word 'their' in the original post means that the money belongs to both of them.

I'm right with you on that one IMP and i'm female :). Some women can be disgusting and sink lower than men i.e. using children as weapons!

    Agreed, but not necessarily 50/50

Funnily enough, it belongs to both of them 100%/100%.

However IMP the womens way does not leave someone in the !!!! trying to pay the bills. I started saving up when I was having relationship problems with my OH incase things went tits up, luckily we sorted our problems and got to go on our first ever proper family holiday with the savings.

Why does this man want to leave so suddenly without telling his wife? I think leaving someone with nothing is disgusting. Happened to FIL at christmas, OH stepmum left him with nothing, emptied the joint account, savings and took the car so he couldnt even get out anywhere. So yeah women do it too and its not nice.

I agree it is just as bad. Certainly doesnt make it any better because men arent as devious. Just as bad no matter what the scenario.

I very much doubt anyone is going to suggest abuse - unless of course they are not only extremely cynical but a bit warped.
