independent car dealer - any good?

Hi all,

We're a little nervous about buying from an independent car dealer and hoped somebody might know this one or have advice on how we might be able to check how legit they are?

We have no reason to think they are dodgy but I'm always worried about buying form independent dealers.... This company is called 'Executive Car Sales' and is based in Ashford, Kent.

Anyone had dealings with them? They have a webpage but its just a part of the autotrader site... I'm new to this buying used cars thing and hoped somebody might be able to put my mind at rest...

Always difficult with indy's - some good some bad like anything in life really!

All I can suggest is google them and look out for any negative reports - try and see how long they have been trading (long time usually means that they must be OK ish to have survived in the same place) - ask around friends and family to see if anyone has used them

My observation with independant dealers is that they dont tend to be in business long. A lot seem to change their name regularly or shut down completely. Its probably best to make sure any warentee you get is covered by an independant company or else you could go back with a problem and find out they're not there.

There are exceptions of course - if they have been around a long time you can probably have a bit more confidence in them.

We have quite a few indys round here who have been in business a lot of years, but they all have proper premises (not a portakabin on waste ground), landline telephone numbers and they attend to you face to face (not a muppet who has to phone up an unseen person for an answer to any questions).

As said there are good independents around however plenty of dodgy ones too
The absence of a proper website would concern me, along, with the name. It just sounds a bit of a dodgy name.
