most expensive dd unpaid letter fee?

are there any fsa (or other relevant body) rules for how much an organisation can charge for an unpaid direct debit letter?
i've been charged £40 to be told by close premium finance that a dd was returned unpaid which i told them about the day before!
to claim its for extra admin is clearly absurd as its all automated.
always thought £10 or £20 was standard (even thats excessive!)
not started any verbal with them yet, wondering about others' experiences.
