Delay on delivery of new car.

Hi my wife is buying a new car, (Volkswagen Fox). We ordered the car 27/02/10 and were told verbally it should be available within four weeks. We have been waiting four weeks now and have enquired at the garage where we bought it, when we will get the car. They are saying that it is still waiting to be shipped and they dont know when it will be shipped. When the vehicle is being shipped it will then take a further two weeks till it arrives. We bought the car under the scrappage scheme which has now finished however the dealer says the car still qualifies as we made the original purchase before the end of the deal. I have asked for some compensation ( a full tank of fuel) for the delay but they have not agreed to my offer. Does anyone have any ideas how I can speed them up or how I might get some compensation for the delay.:(

this seams odd for a VW as they can look on there computer at see what stage the car is and predicted dates etc

when i got my golf my dealer sent me emails with a date for production, date for finish, date for shipping, date for arrival in the uk and a date for collection

unless its one in the system already it seams very odd they do not know exactly where it is as there computer lets them know precisely

VDub Fox's are built in Brasil, so maybe there's been problems in manufacture or delivery? Or maybe the dealer forgot to order it and have been rumbled?

the main prob at the mo with VW is the sheer demand for Fox's, a lot of builds have been pushed back and not just that model. unfortunately you're not going to be alone in waiting for it.

You have saved a large amount already on the car, you should be pleased you squeezed in under scrappage.

We waited 14 weeks for our new Golf Plus.

VW's system is normally pretty good and they can track exactly when they will receive it - My last Audi was delayed by 3 days due to bad weather affecting the shipping and they were quick to tell me, and still came in the same week it was ordered for (8 weeks after order).
IIRC you should have been given a tracking reference for it which a dealer cam type in and check the status.

Think they may be giving you the run around, but TBH you have no redress over the dealer - their contract will be water tight and any delivery date was an estimate. Best you will get is a refund of your deposit, but then you lose the scrapage. Are you in a rush for the car or could you wait a few more weeks?

Ask your dealer for your confirmation number, then phone volkwagen customer services and ask for your build week, i'm waiting on a Golf Bluemotion and was told 4-5 months, i was also told nothin really happens in about the first four weeks, then things start to move.
Although I was advised on a VW Forum that all scrappage cars had to be supplied before the 1st April or within 12 weeks of order or else they dont get the scrappage payment from the government.
Good luck and enjoy the car when you get it, it's a cracking wee thing.

Thanks for the info. I guess I am being a little impatient but as with most new purchases these days you expect immediate results. I didn't know they were made in Brazil. I expected them to be made in Germany and as such were much more readily available. I suppose the wait will make it more worthwhile when it comes.
