vaio connection to tv via hdmi help please

hi
i have a vaio laptop which is connected to sony tv via hdmi cable. today i connected the tv and i can't see the display of the laptop.
i checked the cable by connecting a dvd and it is working fine.
is there any way i can check the hdmi connection on the laptop?

You might need to enable the output, is there a button or function key on the laptop that looks like it'd switch between the built in screen and the output?

Otherwise, you may need to enable a second monitor in the display control panel.

i do have a function button to switch between displays but i just found out that none of my function buttons works
i went to control panel as you advised and found a program NVIDIA which gave me an option to switch between displays:T
any chance you can give me advice about the function buttons?

Unsure if you are saying that it did work but now doesn't or if this is the first time you have tried to use this feature ??????

Turn on the TV and set its input to the HDMI input.

Plug one end of an HDMI cable to the HDMI input port on the TV
and the other end to the HDMI output port on the computer.

Press the Fn+F7 keys to change the display output to the connected TV.

And you should be working full information is available with your user manual for both laptop and tv :j

the function keys did work before but now none of them is working.
i do press the fn + the key but nothing happens:(
