made redundant and volunteers have taken the job

Hi

Does anyone out there know if it is legal for an employer to make general admin staff redundant and then get unpaid volunteers in their place?

Not sure, but I do know that it is the post/position/job (whatever you like to call it) that is made redundant, not the person. So working on that premise you should have been made redundant because the job no longer existed - not because they no longer want to pay anyone to do it!
It is unlawful to make someone redundant then fill their vacancy afterwards (even though some employers do do this and call the post something different) so a trip to your local CAB may be in order?
    Good luck with it.

    Short answer - NO!

Technically it is a job not a person that becomes redundant, either because the firm is closing, moving or the job no longer need doing.
