Firefox - keeps crashing

Hi

Is anyone else having problems with Firefox?

Have used it for years without problem but now all of a sudden it keeps crashing several times a day. No pattern of regularity as to which website it will crash on but often it is on ebay - but happens on several other websites. Very frustrating esp. when you're trying to order stuff online!

I've upgraded twice as requested by Firefox to lasest versions but am minded to delete these versions and go back to an earlier one if this would be more stable.

Please does anyone have any advice - and/or which would be the most stable version to revert back to?

Many thx.

The latest version 3.6.2 is stable so it is likely to be caused by add-ons.

Yep - like he said. 3.6.2 is working fine for me.
  • Hi

Thanks for the replies - yes I think that's the version we're using - this one and the one before it nothing but really regular crashes.

As far as I know we haven't changed anything else on the PC so wondering what could be causing this. Pls does anyone have any suggestions for things we could check/try to remove or alter to make it work again as it's soooo annoying....

    Many thx.

Since updating firefox in the last few days (running W7) it has crashed once when I have been using the PC, its the first time that I can remember and have used it for years, I got an error window asking if I wanted to pass the details of the error back.
I do have the skin add on and will remove it if it happens again.
  • you could have a corrupt profile !!! try creating a new one
  • Hi,

Thanks - we don't have any add ons or extensions just the basic browser.

Excuse extreme dimness(!) but what do you mean by a "profile" and please can you expand on how/what we need to do to create a new one.... we are not very technologically savvy....

We've exported the bookmarks so aside from trying this profile thingamy would it be worth uninstalling the whole thing and reinstalling? Assume we could then import back in all our bookmarks?

    Thx again

If you click on the help tab at the top of Firefox you will see Firefox help there is a lot of info on there which may help you .
Had you thought of removing Firefox completely and reinstalling it again but if you have any bookmarks you want to keep back them up

Since i updated it keeps slowing down and crashing and my menus take forever to appear. Had to resort to IE explorer. Glad someone else is having problems with the update thought my machine was having an issue. Will take off all my add-ons and see if that makes a difference.
  • Hi

Many thanks to JackSpratt - I read through all the stuff you recommended on Firefox and checked all their suggestions. The one that seems to have worked is to disable the AVG safe search option (didn't know we even had this enabled!).

Since doing this we haven't had any more crashes, so would recommend if anyone else is having similar problems to try this.
