That's good L, Did they advise you to pay all creditors a token payment of a £1 each until you can save for your BR?

    Hi Lili

Both Sizz and Wishes are spot on.

I know where you are. 6 months ago I was paying all my debts then having to relay on the small amounts I had left on the credit cards or in O/D to manage.

My divorce is ongoing and long and EXPENSIVE. I spoke with National debline and CAB, both advised BR.

In the first instance I personally contacted all my creditors by letters and offered lower payments, all were "finally" accepted, I got myself a co-op account so no overdraft.

when I first stopped paying letters (in all sorts of pretty colours) and phone calls were constant, but if I didn't recognise the number I never took the calls, and at first the letters do look so frightening but after hanging around here I realised that it is all just scare tactics.

I also find if you do ever pick up a call just say as has been advised above I am addressing my problem (but as also advised never say you are thinking of BR) I found when I said this they did hold off for a while.

I am in a constant battle with myself do i or don't i, but I have found this site and the people I have met on here a godsend and I hope you find it the same.

    Good luck

    LL

No they didnt say that to me, probably because i said to them that i would try and go BR asap. Do you think i should offer a token payment then, as emotionally doing it before Sept is going to be hard for me. I have no intention of taking out any further credit or anything like that, just want to give myself time to do it when i feel strong enough to.

No as there is a possibility that if my house gets sold and the ex has a personality transplant and becomes sensible I might just be able to make it (I am hoping my creditors may accept lower full and final offers can ony hope)

However this has taught me agreat lesson - no more credit, basic bank account, rented accommodation.
