Hi, ive got a huge (and i mean huge) pile of pokémon and yu gi oh cards, at least 2500 of each . My question is should i try and sell them on eBay or take them to a Pokémon / yu gi oh fair or something?

yu gi oh may be worth listing on ebay as the cards can be used in any game and so don't date like Pokemon. The Pokemon cards might sell if you put them up a few hundred at a time in batches, check out some of the completed prices on ebay to see which sets sell and which don't. Pokemon is a more difficult market as the cards can be game specfic and so not all collectors want the same cards. Also, you may want to see if you have any rare Pokemon cards, although they still don't fetch the prices they used to in their hey day. One tip is to avoid buying the card collector magazines, unless you buy one to find out about specialist fairs.. The prices in them tend to be top of the range dealers only prices and don't relate at all to the real market.

Dealers at fairs may be interested, but you might get peanuts for them as they need to turn a good profit themselves. It's wortha try though as often collectors fairs are fairly reasonable to get into, I think I pay about £3 to visit my local fair so it isn't too much of an outlay to get to meet several dealers at the same time.

ok thanks. Ive got a load of rare pokemon cards from charizard, and about 50 promo cards like gyarados and articuno. cheers for your help and i think ill take them to a fair. I was going to car boot them but you will get kids buying them who will just rip them up eventually but if i take them to a fair i might get some profit

My son also had loads of Pokemon ones but I got rid of them a few years ago. About a month ago I came accross about 100 Japanese ones we'd forgotten about. All commons and trainers. I stuck them in as one lot (with a picture) and got about £10.00. I did have more success listing say 10 promos. I think there is still a small market out there, though not like it was. I remember one month I paid my mortgage with the cinema promo ones:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Try just doing a 'completed' search on the single promos and shineys, you may be surprised

The japanese import ones do quite well so I agree entirely with AlanB seperate them out so you know what you have and batch them accordingly.

Oh, and I remember the halycon days of the cinema promos..there used to be stampedes at my local cinema.

    Soo
