Early discharge what does this mean exactly?

Hi all, firstly please may I say a heartfelt thank you to everyone on this board, my OH was made BR in September last year and I covered all the paperwork and helped him through it but could never have done it witout you all!!
OH's Early discharge letter came through today stating that as of the 24th March he is discharged from BR! Well I suppose he can be pleased with that, but he's now asking me what exactly this means and I don't really know what to tell him! :o Could any of you learned people please give me some insight so I can explain to him and be in the know myself of course! :D
Also, what do we tell any creditors that may contact him now that he's discharged?
Thank you so much for your continued help and support, throughout this difficult time. xxx

It means he is now no longer BR, therefore if he has not got an IPA he no longer has to answer to the OR whatever may happen. By the way congratulations on your ED:T

  • thank you dojoman, so does it mean he canm start trying to obtain a good credit history now? What can he do now that he couldn't do before? And what happens if he still gets calls from old creditors that we didn't include on the BR forms (just ones we overlooked)?
Sorry to be a pest just need to get my head round it really, forewarned is forearmed as they say! ;)

    Hi there and congratulaions.

Any debts which were up to BR date are still included so if you get chased for any just tell them as before BR number and dont worry.

Cleaning up credit is a good idea see sticky at top of board for help.

    Enjoy new life.

There is a sticky at the top of the page about credit clean up, any debts you had pre BR are included in your BR whether you listed them or not.

the main change is that the debts have now been wiped (whilst you are bankrupt they are just on hold) and that any lumpsums you receive are yours to keep (during the bankruptcy they would go to the OR)

You should be still able to pen a basic account with Barclays or the Coop, I was made BR in November and have both these accounts.
