My mother broke her coccyx bone and found memory foam pillows the best thing to sit on.

The rubber rings are now banned by the NHS for coccyx damage, they can damage the circulation to your legs if used for hours at a time.

I use an antomically shaped memory foam gel air cell cushion, it has bum, coccyc and legs shapes cut into it and means that I am comfortable, I smashed my pelvis and coccyx in many places and it took nearly 20 years to find a comfortable sitting position.

ask your gp surgery if you can have an assessment for a pressure relieving cushion, depending on your condition you may be eligible for one on the NHS, i am a community nurse and order lots of these for people who are at risk of pressure damage, like the previos poster said rings are not available on the NHS anymore as they are not thought to be best practice

Please don't sit on a rubber ring, the pressure that it causes does more damage than good. Contact your district nurse from your surgery for an assessment for a pressure relieving cushion
Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:

The film "51st state" featured someone who kept sitting on a rubber ring.
  • I would agree with 'sunnyone' I have used both rubber rings and memory foam rings and found the later to be more comfortable and therefore more effective. I originally went for the rubber ring to begin with because of the price and covered it with a pillow case to make it more comfortable, however it wasn't long before I needed something more comfortable so I bought a memory foam pressure relief ring cushion - I wish I bought this one to begin with it would of saved me more money in the long run! Hope this helps 'jeffy22':)

When I fractured my coccyx falling down the stairs, I arranged cushions/pillows on the chair to allow a natural space where my tailbone was.

Mind you, I still can't sit on a hard floor or chair even now!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
