Seat Sizes

hi - I haven't posted on this board before so apologies if this is a stupid question, but I want to take my kids to New York in early December, however my elder daughter and I are both almost 6ft tall and I am paranoid about getting a DVT (hypochondria really but....). (I'm also not as slim as I was IYKWIM). I was wondering what airline gives you the best legroom and seat size, or are they all the same? I have even been thinking of booking premium economy or business class but the fare differences seem to be ENORMOUS. Can anyone advise??

The sticky at the top of this thread gives some good links

Big thread on flyer talk with loads of links.
  • you can try requesting a bulkhead when you check in, my tall OH often does this. it depends on how many babies are fliying whether they are available.

The flight isn't really that long, even shorter from northern airports.

I don't think there's a great deal of difference in comfort level between the airlines. You may as well save the extra money you might have spent on a better seat on your 6 hour flight, and put it towards a better hotel when you get there instead.

I wouldn't personally ask for a bulkhead, as you do get a bit more legroom but no seat in front of you means you can't stretch your legs out as much. An exit row is the best seat, as you've got lots of extra leg room but can't recline. They're hard to get though as they're normally saved for frequent flyers.
  • you would be better off making sure that you get up out of your seat at regular intervals and stretch your legs ( walk to the loo etc ) . i'm over 6ft tall and can't say i have had that many problems with the legroom in economy. if you're from the crosby at the north end of liverpool how about taking the kids next summer and using globespan from speke to newark ....the 'business' fares seem quite reasonable
