well i dont see why you couldnt split the signal
once its outputted by the sky box then its just traveling along the cable
you can get splitters a lot cheaper on eBay

Or could you reroute the dish feed to the bedroom, put the HD box in the bedroom and run a coax cable from the Sky box RF2 connection to the living room TV. A 'magic-eye' in the living room could be used so the remote control would work in either room.

Actually you very much can split the HDMI signal (I do) with a device like this: SPLITTER available even from places like Maplin (but more expensive)

The real problem you have is distance, HDMI doesn't like doing distance!
Also HDMI cables can get to silly prices. The splitter like I point to above will boost the signal to be able to go about 15 metres from it (probably you would hide splitter round the back of your sky box). If you can then find a way to get to the bedroom TV with a 15 metre cable (or less) all well and good something like this would do. If you need to reach further you can now get extension leads with a booster built in powered by the HDMI signal like this would give you another 15 metres... you need to work out your run and cable route from downstairs tV to upstairs TV before deciding what to do.
