CPP could cause possible online Fraud

I just called CPP using the CPP website (not guaranteed site) to get their contact details. The robot asked for account number which I didn't have to hand, instead of putting me through to an operator it then asked for my ACCOUNT NUMBER and SORT CODE !! to be said back to it over the phone.
I can't stress enough how dangerous and irresponsible this is. I am dumbfounded that of all the companys to request these details it happens to be a card protection company! When I pointed this out to them all they said was would I like to take out Fraud Protection aswell !!

Am I just being a little paranoid or is this unbelievable

A little paranoid I think. They have to ask you something to identify you.

The above is their contact form to email them a question.

  • If you think its safe to give out bank details, why not put yours on here then?

As your reaction is slightly different to what I thought it might be, can you post up the telephone number you contacted?

Below are the details from the website which are checkable and give a postal address to write to.

To be clear with you, if I contact the bank then I give my account number to identify myself. Depending on who I am speaking to/writing to will depend what information I have to give.

To answer your question, I wouldn't put my details on MSE but I would on a contactus site to a provider who I deal with and have either a complaint or query with. That is where the difference between here and the link I gave is.
