Receiving money from abroad

I have a Lloyds TSB current account and a HSBC current account, I need to receive some money from outside the EU.

Silly question but how do I do this, what account info does an organisation need to transfer money to me in the Uk. I know when I have sent money out abroad in the past I have had account no, swift code, IBAN no(?) do I just give them my sort number and account no?

Also does anyone know if its ok to receive money from abroad into a current account? From having a quick look at Lloyds they seem to charge £7 for anything over £100 but then it starts talking about internationl bank accounts...???

Anyone done this, whats the procedure, the amount is about £4000.

your current account will be able to recieve funds internationally although really the banks give you a pretty poor deal when it comes to international inbound transfers, Nationwide are much better.

anyhow, what you need to provide is your sort code, account number, BIC, and SWIFT code, these should be written on your bank statement or available over the phone. the one other thing that's usually required is the address of your bank, your branch address or their head-office is generally acceptable.

Ideally however, instead of giving the sort code and account number, your IBAN is far better since it includes a check digit to make sure the account details are valid whereas giving your sortcode and acct# does not.

Give the sender the IBAN and BIC number which LTSB will provide to you - then wait for the money to arrive less the charge of between £5-£12.
