HSBC vs Churchill Insurance

Hi All,

Not sure whether I'm posting in the right place as it comes under Banking and Insurance.....probably more banking though.

Back in November 2009 I was declared bankrupt. I had a bank account with HSBC and a joint account with my wife also through HSBC. My wife also had a single account with HSBC. In the joint account we had a £500 overdraft which HSBC demanded back. After explaining over and over again that I was bankrupt they closed the joint account and sent it to MCS. At the same time all my wifes DD were cancelled in her single account and they locked her account until she could provide ID (not sure why). Anyway I transferred our DD's to my Co-op account and all was well. That was until I received a letter from Co-op saying they are closing my account as I've been running it wrong (I've not gone overdrawn and have used it responsibly). Anyway managed to get my Co-op acc up and running, but they won't let me have any DD's. So we've set about creating new DD's with HSBC. Most have gone through fine, but if they haven't we can pay by Debit Card. Then we tried to do it with Churchill. After setting up the DD, we received a letter from them saying that it hadn't been setup as our bank declined it. My wife phoned Churchill and they said that we needed to speak to the bank as there is a 'restriction' on her bank account meaning they can't setup a DD, which is strange as we have other DD's coming out of the account fine. So my wife phoned HSBC. They said that there isn't a restriction and that if my wife filled in a mandate then it would be ok. So we filled in another mandate and sent it off. We received a letter again saying that it hadn't been accepted and that if we didn't setup a valid DD in 7 days the insurance would be cancelled!! So we phoned up the bank again. They said there was nothing they could do as there isn't a restriction and as its been longer than 2 months since we had the original DD with them they can't re-activate it. So back on the phone to Churchill. Again the same explanation, 'there is a restriction on the account'. They did, however, agree to lengthen the 7 days to 21 days.

Is there anything we can do? None of them want to take responsibility. Another option is to open another bank account, but with me being undischarged I'm not sure if my wife we'll be accepted anywhere else.

Thanks in Advance
