Acer 5720z stopped charging

I have an Acer 5720z which was about to run out of battery so I plugged it into the mains. However it did not start charging and eventually ran out. The LED light is lit up on the transformer yet it is no longer getting hot as it used to and is not supplying power to the computer. Is this a problem with the transformer or the connection on the laptop?
I ask as someone suggested the transformer is supplying power but the compter is not returning it, therfore the curcuit is not complete and thats why there is no heat???
I don't want to buy a transformer to find out its the laptop
If it is can it be fixed and does anyone know if it's a big job, what would be a fair price to pay.
I'm off to bed as it's got me !!!!!!ed!!!
But await suggestions with massive thanks

I'm sure you've tried the obvious things, but there's no harm in going over them.
Do you have a charging light on the laptop itself? If it isn't lit, it's not receiving a charge.
Try reseating the battery or, if possible, try charging with the battery removed.
One other thing I did on one of my old laptops was to slightly bend the central connector on the charger input (where it goes into the laptop) to make a tighter fit. I don't mean bend it in half, just a slight pressure!
If that doesn't work, I'd guess it would be the charger rather than the laptop. Do you know anyone with a similar laptop who would lend you their adapter to try?0
