Smelly Washing

For a while now, my washing has been quite smelly, a kind of "cheesy" smell, after it has been washed in the washing machine.
Now, I've had the washing machine replaced last week as the old one broke down and washing is still smelly straight after being washed.
The guy who installed the new one flushed out the waste pipes etc.
Any ideas?

How strange... especially now you've changed the machine too!
Maybe your detergent? Are you using a fabric conditioner? it may help... the Lenor concentrate ones are very good0 -
Fabric conditioner really does make your clothes smell better.
Also maybe use a prewash or presoak some of the potentially smelly/dirty things such as socks!0 -
Our washing started smelling when my husband started using the tablets that you put inside the drum with the washing instead of powder in the drawer. Took me ages to work out why.

He has a tendancy to overload the machine too which meant that the detergent just wasn't getting through the washing.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Are you taking the washing out right after the end of the cycle? I've sometimes had a bit of a bad smell develop if I've forgotten to empty the machine soon enough.0

I was going to say the same about empyting the machine and not leaving the washing in there.
If you are using concentrated liquid check that you put enough in. I found with gym gear that you need to add extra to get through.
I also found that the water softner tablet didn't dissolve properly in the drum, leaving white marks over everything so now put them in the drawer with liquid and it works much better.
Are you using an energy saving wash? Maybe the temperature isn't hot enough or there isn't enough water going through. Do you clean the filter regularly too? This can help if it's an option on your machine.0 -
Try doing a boil wash with washing powder but no clothes, the pipes may have a build up of gunge that wasnt cleared properly by the installer,0

I had a similar problem and was looking in the supermarket for something to solve it. I got chatting to an elderly lady whose family have owned a chain of launderettes for years.
She informed me that I needed to put a cup full of THIN bleach (ie Tesco Value 20p stuff) into the drum and then do a boil wash with nothing in the machine.
Apparently, the smell is caused by a build up of washing liquid and conditioner in the pipes - could even be in the pipe that leads out of the house, might not be the one from the machine.
If this doesn't work then maybe try unplugging the machine and undoing all pipes and then tipping some of that extremely thick drain cleaning liquid down the outpipe. I buy some at the pound shop with a very thin directable nozzle on it.0
