I bought my sister the sony A3000 in black for christmas price was £230 everywhere the only place to have the black one was currys. currys online price was £200 and the local empire matched the price from currys I didnt tell them it was online. so I went to currys who phoned Empire and they said they were £230 but didnt have black. so I was prepared to pay the £230 to get the black one. I just asked I dont supose you price match your own website and the assistant said they do so we got it for £200 in the end.

If you dont ask you dont get I always ask for a 25% discount after saying I want the item then wait for them to either say yes, it doesnt happen too often or wait for them to offer me an alternative usually 10-15% where I ask for more 17.5% is always a good one to ask for as it is a known number sort of knocking the VAT off. Always smile when asking they seem to like the cheek of it and usually cave in more often. Ohh and dont be afraid to walk away if they dont give you any discount how many other currys stores are there in your area just try another.

I just got the delivery charge (£50) knocked off because of web delivery and a discount code on the item l was buying :D
  • they'll usually give discounts off the product if you take out coverplan (rip off extended warrenty).

If they offer the coverlan say you are not sure and they'll make an discount offer. Don't take their first offer, hold out.

Buy the coverplan, to get the product discounted, then cancel the coverplan a few days later. You have 14 days to cancle the coverplan, and your get a cheque from DSG (Dixons Stores Group). You will not be able to cancel the coverplan in store though.

  • I have never bought anything electrical (washing machine, laptop etc) without at least 10-15 percent off. If you choose a quiet time (Mondays seem to be best for some reason) they seem more amenable and faster to shift stock! The least you should be able to get off is 10% in any large store. I'm a really bad haggler as I get embarrassed but if I ask for a discount and they refuse I simply tell them I will buy ALL future purchses in (insert nearest rival) and that I love new technology and change everything regularly. This has worked in 95% of all cases . I bought a laptop in currys ,which was up for £1300, for £1100 and got a free leather antler case worth £79.99 thrown in too! This part may be a little politically incorrect but I like to make them feel as though they are doing a huge favour for a blonde female who's not the sharpest knife in the drawer and thinks they are fantastic. Well worth pushing a little.

You must be the one who walked out of the store I work in the other day.
They wanted a deal cash (Read my posting on the first page reference people saying this.) Reckoned they could get £400 off a 2 grand deal in Comet. Good luck I thought, go to Comet then.
Also look at your receipt. Is the laptop discounted by £200? If not then the ticket was wrong, and the salesman saw a good opportunity by saying 'Tell you what, I'll do it for £1100' which is the actual price. Also the laptop bag at £79.99. That may have been a freebie deal that was on the system. The only way of actually seeing if they gave you a deal is to see if the reciept says ' managers offer', and then a minus symbol and the price of the item.
Us salesmen do not do daft deals for blondes, we are a little bit more savvy than that.
Oh, and we know we are fantastic.

  • sorry to bring up such an old thread, but there's some pretty good advice that i think many could benefit from reading.

i'm looking to buy a desktop and laptop at the end of the month. i'm looking to get a desktop at around the £750-850 range, and a laptop for around £300-400.

what do we think are my chances of getting office 2007, norton 360 v3, an external hard drive and a laptop bag thrown in for free? am i being too cheeky?

  • Nope, don't expect discount like you did last year! This year targets are hard, prices are lowest and the only discount to expect is the price promise! I work there and have for 3 years and I refuse to do silly and needless discount on items where you can't get cheaper and we don't discount our "whateverhappens" because theres no need to, we offer a much better service than other shops like comet and bennets (bennets only offer a basic manufacterers warrenty anyway!!). Many a time I have refused discount on items because theres no need to then the customer has told me they'll go and get it cheaper at comets, half an hour later I have a little smile to myself as I see them walking back through the door with their tails between their legs and saying they'll have the item.... so why should I have done discount in the 1st place?? and it's every customer not just one or 2 coming back! Discounts easier to get at small companies down little back streets as they're over priced and will bring prices down only to match ours and even still be more expensive....
  • Anyone know if Curry's will do a deal on the games in a console bundle? For example at the minute they have an xbox 360 with Lego Harry Potter and Forza Motorsport for £149. I have no interest in the Harry Potter game (retail £39.99) but I would Gladly take Tiger Woods instead (retail £34.98). As this is cheaper would they go for it?

    Cheers
