hi everyone
i've had a pain since moving in my house (4 yrs ago)
the previous owners suposidly had the garden landscaped!
Well on the patio i have a drain which isnt level with the patio & so has a slab covering it sitting on bricks.
Now it is only the lid that sits above the patio
my mate is coming to do some gardening for me & it going to adjust the drain so that it will be flush with the patio
Now my neighbour mentioned he thought there might be rules which is why the drain isnt flush?
he couldnt help because they have decking so dont have the same problem
its a mains drain shared with neighbour

If your mate hasn't got a set of drainage plans for your drain in his hands when he comes around do not let him touch it..
You cant just lower or higher a drain. They are position at a level for a reason.
Edit: Oh yeah, forgot..... He needs to be carrying a tape measure & spirit level also. And a laser level on a tripod wouldn't go amiss...Not Again0 -

What exactly is he changing the level of?
If it is the manhole cover or cover grating, then it is not a problem and you don't need to ask anyone.
I can't imagine that you are planning on raising the invert level of the drain itself, are you?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Agree with withabix - if you are talking about knocking a course of bricks out to lower the level of the manhole cover then it shouldn't be a problem.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Manhole cover levels are meant to be suited to the ground around the cover. Covers are adjusted all the time, there is no reason that you can't raise or lower the frame and cover to suit your garden. There are standards for the construction of manholes but it seems more than likely that we are talking about an inspection chamber rather than a full blown manhole. If however we are talking about concrete rings with a biscuit on top then you should have between 2-4 courses of engineering brick below the cover.
As its in your garden there would be no problem adjusting to suit.
HTHSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0 -
