My b/f and I are unseasoned overseas travellers! We've mainly been on short city breaks (Rome, Amsterdam, Paris) and one proper holiday to the East coast of Sardinia.
We were thinking about a (sort of budget) week in Nice in September, but for the price we could probably go further afield... perhaps somewhere more exotic! As we haven't really travelled much I don't know where to start looking.
I wonder if some of you good people could throw a few ideas at me?
We're only a teensy bit fussy
- Car hire is out of the question, so transport must be good, although we don't mind walking moderate distances.
- I'd like to be near a tolerable beach
- Some culture would be a bonus... we like ruins and history and intelligent sight-seeing
- I've never stayed at a resort and I'm hesitant to try one... am I being silly?
- We live near Luton airport so we'd be mad to fly from anywhere else... although Gatwick would be ok as a last resort.
Thanks in advance to all the helpful people

Sicily is nice, you could also try Tunisia or Egypt for more exotic. My Bf and i went to both Sicily and Tunisia and did it all by public transport. We got a chrter flight to Sicily and then struck out alone, really liked it there. In Tunisia we stayed in a resort but did all out sightseeing independently but you will need to be a bit adventurous to do this. I wouldn't stay in a resort again though.we have love enough to light the streets.0
