Just a quick rant to let you all know that for the 8th time in 12 months (doesn't sound a big deal) I've noticed a Tesco cashier accidentally scanning an item twice.
Pro: checking your receipt straight away and taking it to the Customer Service desk, Tesco will refund you twice the difference e.g. an item cost £1 which they scanned twice, but rather than simply refund you £1 they refund double i.e. £2.
Con: that's off those receipts I've bothered to check which means there may well have been more instances.
Question: is this common with everyone or does nobody bother checking their receipt? Theoretically we could be accumulated thousands and thousands of pounds unnecessarily into the kitty of Tesco & other stores.

Yes- sorry to say it's all too common. I check my reciept each and every time. Yesterday 3 things were scanned twice but were then taken back off again-i hadn't even realised but obviously the cashier had. Had she not, then i to would have been at the customer services desk once more!!0

Very common, not only in Tesco either. I always check my receipts, and often have to queue at CS to get my DTD, not only for double scans but for misprices too - check for a Tesco Misprices thread and you will see how common it is!!

One of my favourites though is when asda make an error on something small, you go to the CS desk and get your money back (not DTD but just the difference between what you paid and what you should have paid, and then you mention something like "do you still do the £2 gift card too?", so for an error of 37p the other day I got my 37p back and a £2 gift card! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
In asda everytime ive been overcharged ive had to ask for gift card, then cs person says i was just about to give you it.hmmmmm0

happens in asda EVERY week - there's always at least one item i have been charged more for than the price on the shelf label.
i have no qualms about asking for my giftcard each time because it is so regular and then you have to queue at CS.0 -
Watch out also if you are buying Meal Deals in Tesco - you know, £9 for a main, side, dessert and bottle of wine. Twice the discount has not been applied for me - a hefty £10-odd each time, as I chose a bottle of wine for more than the value of the meal. I was behind someone in the queue this week and the same thing happened to them. CS refunded, but it pays to check!0

It does happen accidently sometimes, it's not intentional. I work in retail myself and sometimes find that an item just beeps twice, and unfortunately it can be quite easy not to notice it if there's a lot of noise or a lot of items. We don't do it to !!!! people off.0 -

If you find that Asda have made more than one pricing error on your receipt, they should give you a £2 gift card for each error :j as well as a refund of the amount overcharged. However this does not apply to multiple purchases of the same item. This is in their Customer Services Policy folder.0
