Reading AOL email in Google

Sorry if this is a dumb question and I do believe it has been answered before but I have forgotten the answer.

I read AOL email in Chrome but it is not ideal and I cannot find how to get a toolbar that will allow me to make words BOLD or underlined or change the font etc. Would it be better in Google itself?

It is very strange, but for a brief second earlier the tool bar I am looking for actually
appeared at the top of the email space.

I do not have and will not buy MS Office which would make things easier of course.

You should be able to alter the toolbar settings by going Chrome>Preferences>Basics.
Google is not a web browser, it is a website.
Why not just read your AOL email in any email program, such as Outlook Express, Windows Mail, or Thunderbird?-all are free.
MS Office would give you Outlook, but any of the above three will do the job for you.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
